For another year running camping equipment prices are set to rise between 10-30%. The continual weakened pound has not helped buyers in China and the Far East but additional problems have arisen this year including limited workforce and raw materials in China. Add to this the 2.5% increase in VAT next year and doesn’t like there will be bargains galore!
Because of the current climate we expect many retailers to try to absorb the price increases but at these levels there are sure to be some noticeable price changes for 2011. Some retailers have stockpiled stock from 2010 to be able to offer good deals next year so expect to say a mix of new and old ranges in the stores in the spring. If you are looking to possibly buy equipment at the moment it may not be worth hanging off for the 2011 equivalent. Ring the manufacturer and see if any significant changes have been made to the model as it may not be worth paying 20% more for.
